In therapy, I work to help these individuals create awareness and put into action new ways of coping. We will work in increase perspective taking in order to better understand other's points of view and strengthen relationships. Often times, rigid thought patterns can result in avoidance and feeling "stuck". Within the context of a trusting therapeutic relationship, I strive to teach skills that lead to better problem solving and increased self efficacy and confidence.
I have worked exclusively with this population in my past 2.5 years of being a wilderness therapist. This experience has not only broadened my understanding of Autism and learning differences, but it has afforded me a deep passion for helping these children, adolescents and young adults navigate a neurotypical world.
Parents are also an important part of this process. The skills learned in therapy need your support in order to be successful at home and in school. We will often talk at the end of your child's session to review what we are working on and learning. I also work solely with parents in coaching sessions to help you better understand of you child and teach supportive parenting skills.
